Writing Endings Workshop

Scene Writing Basics: Writing Endings Workshop

Writing Endings: Scene Writing Basics workshops on Sundays on Zoom.

Stephen Covey said, “Begin with the end in mind.” This advice applies not only to everyday goals but also to writing in all genres from sci-fi to romance to memoir. The final words of your piece linger in your reader’s mind. A weak ending can undermine even the most brilliant opening and middle. Learn to harness the power of a strong conclusion to elevate your entire work. In this workshop, we’ll focus on crafting your story’s ending—even if you haven’t started writing yet.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Acquire techniques for creating satisfying story resolutions.
  • Explore different types of endings for series and standalone stories.
  • Practice strategies to evoke emotion and leave a lasting impression.
  • Discover methods to reinforce your main ideas in non-fiction pieces.
  • Learn to tailor your ending to different genres and formats.
  • Gain tips for avoiding common pitfalls in conclusions.
  • Connect with fellow writers.
  • Receive immediate, constructive feedback.
  • Use generative writing prompts to craft satisfying story endings that deliver the payoff readers crave.

Our Writing Endings Workshop is part lecture and part generative writing. We choose prompts based on themes of the week, education, craft, or creative value, so you can be sure you’ll always have fresh ideas. We prioritize positive reinforcement and teaching techniques, so you’ll leave each meeting feeling inspired and ready to tackle your next writing project.
