Uproot Magazine – Call for Fiction and Poetry
Uproot is a literary journal whose main interest lies in place–more specifically, moving from place to place. We want to read and share literature that is complex, work that challenges notions of genre, work that pulls you up by the roots and plants you somewhere else, somewhere unexpected. Uproot is a journal about moving in the loosest sense, be it moving from a big city to a small town, switching schools, getting a new job, starting somewhere fresh or returning somewhere stale, etc. We’re interested in topics concerning the geological and emotional estrangement, displacement, alienation, longing, as well as that sense of discovery and exploration and all of the other contradictory feelings associated with moving to a new/old location. A clear and strong development of setting and character is, to say the least, our most primary concern when selecting any piece of work.
General Submission guidelines:
- Poetry 3-5 poems
- Prose 3,000 words maximum
- Please submit work as either .doc/.docx file or PDF file as attachments.
- We do not accept work that has been copied and pasted into the body of an email.
- We are a tri-quarterly journal with rolling submissions, so we accept work at all times of the year, though depending on when you submit we may or may not be reading your story for the present issue.
- Please submit a brief 60 word bio written in the 3rd person
- Please send only original, unpublished work
- If your work has been published elsewhere please let us know so we can retract your submission
- Our current submission window for our next issue is 3/13/15-5/14/15
- Please send submissions to uprootmagATgmailDOTcom
Scream Online – Poems on Dreams and Dreamers and Dreaming
I am looking for poems for an online mini-anthology of poems about dreaming and dreams.
They will appear in Scream Online, an online arts/culture/literature journal that gets about 50,000 hits a month. The journal in the past has published poems by Dorianne Laux, Jared Carter, Robin Davidson, Tom C. Hunley, Helen Degen Cohen, Charles Fishman, Bruce Guernsey, Lola Haskins, Rick Hilles, Sharon Mesmer, and many others.
Here’s a link to the most recent mini-anthology: Heaven and Hell: 48 Poems by 37 Poets
http://www.thescreamonline.com/poetry/poetry7-4/heavenhell.html
What I’m looking for are poems talking about what you think about dreams or dreaming. The poems can be previously published or unpublished. Short prose pieces (prose poems?) would also work.
The deadline for submissions is August 1, 2015.
Send your poems to John Guzlowski at jzguzlowskiATgmailDOTcom
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Pan’s Shadow – Call for Submissions
The classic character of Peter Pan may be the picture of childhood innocence, but even he has a shadow…
Pan’s Shadow is interested in publishing poetry, short stories and quotes about the imperfect elements or experiences of childhood. We want to publish stories that, even though widely experienced, are not often heard in our “disneyfied” world.
Literary works can range from nostalgic memories of childhood shenanigans to experiencing the death of a parent. We welcome all works focusing on “imperfect” childhoods. We are open to all genres as well as both fiction and non-fiction works. We stress that we are not looking for submissions of torture or pornography.
Please submit works through email or our Facebook page:

Shadowgraph Online Quarterly – Call for Submissions:
Shadowgraph Online Quarterly is currently looking for well-written fiction with an edge, and lyric or personal essays. We also have a special feature called “Insiders” devoted to writing about inmates, prison life, and what happens when one is released from prison. If you have stories related to that theme, we would love to see them for the “Insiders” section of the Quarterly. Also, if you work in the prison system, teaching creative writing, for example, please contact us and perhaps we can feature your program in the next “Insiders” section of the Quarterly. Our next print journal isn’t due out until next July, but for that Issue we are looking for everything: cross-genre, poetry, fiction, and essays. Please check out the web site at www.shadowgraf.com and http://www.shadowgraf.com/submissions/ Thanks so much.
