POV Writing Workshop

Scene Writing Basics: POV (Point of View) Writing Workshop

Scene Writing Basics: POV Writing Workshop on Sundays on Zoom.

Does choosing the right point of view (POV) make you tense? This workshop explores the art of selecting and crafting compelling POVs that enhance your story without overwhelming it. We’ll uncover the most essential character in your story: the narrator.

The Power of Effective Point of View

  • Shapes the reader’s perception of the story
  • Determines the level of intimacy between reader and characters
  • Influences the tone and atmosphere of the narrative
  • Controls the information available to the reader

Exploring Different POVs

  • First-person: Intimate and personal
  • Second-person: Unique and immersive
  • Third-person limited: Focused yet flexible
  • Third-person omniscient: All-knowing and expansive

In this workshop, you will:

  • Uncover the unique advantages of various POVs, from the intimacy of first-person to the expansive scope of third-person omniscient
  • Witness firsthand how shifting POV can dramatically alter your story’s tone, pacing, and reader engagement
  • Dive into creative writing exercises using tailored prompts designed to stretch your POV muscles
  • Gain critical insights into the strengths and weaknesses of your chosen POV through guided analysis and peer feedback
  • Transform ideas into tangible prose, overcoming writer’s block through focused POV techniques
  • Forge connections with fellow writers, sharing experiences and insights on narrative perspective
  • Benefit from real-time, constructive critique to refine your POV skills and elevate your storytelling
